Lada Bočková

Biography

Soprano Lada Bočková is one of the most outstanding talents of the young Czech singing generation. In the current season, she is performing as Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) at the Estates Theatre and as Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) at the Prague State Opera. She also stars as Elena in a new production of Nino Rota’s Il cappello di paglia di Firenze at the Antonín Dvořák Theatre. After previously debuting as Violetta in La traviata at the Teatro Lirico Sperimentale and touring theatres across Umbria, she recently reprised the role at the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc. She also made her debut at the J.K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen as Carolina in The Two Widows.

Born in Brno, the “Janáček city,” she studied at the Janáček Academy of Music and graduated in the title role of The Cunning Little Vixen. In 2024, she performed the role of the Vixen at both the Antonín Dvořák Theatre and Theater Magdeburg. That same year, she received a nomination for the prestigious Czech Thalia Award for this role.

From 2020 to 2023, she was a member of the opera ensemble at Theater Bonn in Germany, where she successfully performed several signature roles in her repertoire, including Oscar (Un ballo in maschera), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Clorinda (La Cenerentola), Nerone (Agrippina), and the title role in La Calisto (Cavalli). In 2024, she returned to Theater Bonn to sing Laudine in Iwein Löwenritter. In 2022, she made her debut as Tebaldo in a new production of Don Carlo, directed by Robert Carsen, at the Aalto Theater in Essen.

As part of her concert activities in the current and previous seasons, she performed in three major concerts featuring Webber’s Requiem and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with the Prague Symphony Orchestra (FOK). This May, she will once again sing the soprano solo in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony with the Slovak Philharmonic under the baton of Daniel Raiskin. She also appeared with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra alongside Andrea Bocelli in a major Christmas concert in Malta. She made her U.S. debut performing in concert with Joseph Calleja at BroadStage in California. In 2024, she gave a recital dedicated to Czech composers in the Suk Hall of the Rudolfinum, as part of the Czech Philharmonic’s chamber music series.

Lada has also begun a film career, playing the role of an opera singer in two feature films. The first is the American superhero film The Crow, directed by Rupert Sanders, and the second is the Danish film Ehrengard, directed by Bille August.

Last but not least, she sang at the Gala de la Journée Européenne du Patrimoine in Saint-Émilion, France, accompanied by Morgane Fauchois-Prado, and was awarded the honorary title of “Dame de la Jurade” by the Jurade de Saint-Émilion.
